Here's what you do:
How do I become a Member? It is easy and free! Click on "Join Now!" on the left side of this page. What is a Backyard and how does it show up on the website? A Backyard is any outside area that you want to explore. It can be around your house, a park, a school, a field, a forest, a pond, a beach, or anywhere else!. When you make a Backyard, you give it a name and describe it a little bit, like what state it is in. Then you can map it and start adding Discoveries for other people to see. How do I make a Backyard? Click on the button "Make a New Backyard" on your member homepage. What are 3 ways somebody can view my Backyard?
What is a Discovery? A Discovery is anything natural that you find outside, that you want to put on the website. This might include animals (alive or dead!), plants, rocks, animal tracks, weather conditions, or any other natural things. What happens when I add a Discovery to the website? Your new Discovery shows up in your "private collection" that only you can see. You see it on your member homepage or when you are looking at your Backyard. Your Discovery sits in your private collection and nobody else can see it until you move it into your Backyard. This lets you decide when to show others your Discoveries, and lets us review all Discoveries before others can see them. What information do I need to know to make a new Discovery? Not too much, although it will be more interesting (and you will earn you more votes!) if you have more information. You just type in your Discovery's name and answer some questions the web site asks you. You can also load a photo from a digital camera if you have one, or a drawing you scanned into the computer, or you can use the Backyard Jungle online drawing tool to draw a picture of your new Discovery. How do I add a Discovery? Click the "Add a New Discovery" button. You can find that button on your member homepage or on your Backyard page. Just click the button and follow the instructions. How do I put my Discovery into my Backyard? Go to your Backyard and drag the Discovery from your "private collection" into the backyard. That's all you have to do. What if I have questions? Send an email to listenup@backyardjungle.org, or contact us at this address: Backyard Jungle 2200 Mount Vernon Avenue Alexandria, Virginia 22301 What is Backyard Jungle?
