Become an Ornithologist!
What's an ornithologist? An ornithologist is a scientist who studies birds. This month, volunteers all around the world will help ornithologists by participating in the Great Backyard Bird Count.
Here's what you can do to help:
- Pick one of the following days: Friday, February 17; Saturday, February 18; Sunday February 19; Monday, February 20.
- Go to the library and check out a field guide for identifying birds.
- Print out this data sheet to record your information.
- On your chosen day, you must spend at least 15 minutes looking for birds. Record which species of birds you see and the highest number that you see at one time.
- Draw or take pictures of the birds you see. Then go to Backyard Jungle http://pbskids.org/backyardjungle/ and add them to your backyard.
- Finally, enter your information on the Great Backyard Bird Count page. Ask a parent or teacher to help you. There is more information for them on the parent's & teacher's page.
Thanks for your help! The information you provide will help ornithologists to learn more about birds.
